Fisher expertly highlights how Olive’s understanding about the world around her is altered by her experience, with spot-on depictions of the rural Pennsylvania community. The pacing is swift, and the characterization fully realized. The story moves at a swift pace as Fisher provides piercing perspectives on gender bias, family, relationships, resilience, and trauma. Rich in its discussion of portrayal of sexism and gender inequalities of the era, the novel makes for a gripping read.
