Unsatisfactory…
Jessie and her daddy have hearts, so the Robot sets on a journey to find a heart for himself as well. “Jessie and her Daddy love playing. / Do you love to play? / Will I find my heart playing sports?” asks the Robot. He learns about family ties, friendship, the value of learning and other things on the way. The illustrations are neat, and the story touches on themes of importance of family, friendship, books, and sports. But the unsatisfying ending (the Robot never gets a heart) makes for a huge disappointment and gives the story an unfinished feel. A different ending and a hefty narrative would have made the book more appealing to young children.
