Adam must use his special powers carefully if he wants to help others. Starace creates a fascinating world rife with magical realism elements that features constantly interesting characters. Adam is a realistic, relatable protagonist. The secondary characters are unique, satisfyingly complex, and thoroughly compelling. Starace’s narration feels intimate, especially when he portrays his protagonist’s potent struggle. Adam’s supernatural ability to get into someone else’s mind keeps the narrative tense, as readers wonder who or what is at the root of those powers.
