The Death Brothers: A Supernatural Awakening (HMU Book 8) by Dee Rose

An entertaining, fantastical romp…

Populated by angels, vampires, werewolves, demons, and other supernatural beings, Rose’s exciting eighth HMU urban fantasy is a high octane mix of thrills and chills. Jericho Caine and Father Tom Padilla, the Death Brothers, are back in The Reefs in the Gulf of Mexico to avenge the death of Jericho’s assistant. Meanwhile, Sariel strikes a deal with the Hangman to distract the brothers and also hires a vengeful scientist Dr. Ranken to create a monster and use him to eliminate Tom.  But Dr. Ranken and his creation have their own plans. With Susan still in comma and the Grand Librarian Alexander in Chicago, Tom and Jericho must face the new threat on their own. Jericho and Tom’s sound alliance and perilous quest to eliminate their foreboding enemy keep the pages turning. Though, this is 8th installment in the series, it’s pretty much a stand-alone novel. The newcomers will find it easy to get in whereas the series fans will delight in the return of familiar faces and love to watch the brothers’ compelling and surprisingly playful partnership grow. The brothers’ constant banter keeps the things light. The Hangman’s character is intimidating. Despite his inhuman streak, he is a thoroughly humane character. Rose makes his loneliness and the sense of alienation palpable. Surprising revelations keep matters moving briskly throughout, and the lavishly drawn epic battle scenes will keep readers hooked. Readers looking for a swiftly paced, highly readable paranormal thriller will be wise to pick this one.
