The details surrounding the frequency network and the secretive Harmonic Alliance are fascinating, though the lengthy technical explanations occasionally interrupt the action. The Egyptian setting is particularly well used, with the Great Pyramid’s chambers and unusual architecture playing an important role in the unfolding mystery.
The romance is the novel’s strongest suit. Aria is smart, stubborn, and unwilling to let anyone make decisions for her, least of all Kael, whose habit of confusing protection with authority repeatedly lands him in trouble. Their arguments have bite, and the attraction simmering beneath their mutual irritation makes for an entertaining push and pull. Nair gives their relationship more to wrestle with than the usual question of whether they’ll give in to desire. The result is a compelling romantic suspense novel that offers a fresh take on love, trust, and free will.
