Once a Liar by A.F. Brady

cover151500-medium

Intricately plotted, this psychological thriller grabs the reader from the start and doesn’t let go until the truth about killer is finally revealed…

Peter Caine, a ruthless and one of the best Manhattan defense attorneys, has learned only to win. He has little time and no emotions for anything else other than his work. When beautiful Charlie Doyle, Peter’s former lover—and step-daughter of Peter’s professional rival, the Manhattan DA, is murdered, Peter’s world falls apart. He becomes the prime suspect, and the DA is determined to persecute Peter to avenge his daughter’s murder and his past humiliations. As the evidence mounts against him, Peter is forced to unravel his own dark past, but the truth of who killed Charlie Doyle is more twisted and sinister than Peter could have ever imagined. The first third of the book is slow, but the narrative becomes engrossing after that. The climax is stuffed with shocking revelations, which includes a direct confession from the killera solid damp on otherwise a fabulous plot. Some revelations throughout the story are improbable. The book lacks one essential element of mystery: it fails to keep characters’ innocence or guilt in doubt. Despite that, readers will turn the pages fast until they reach the utterly surprising and astonishingly dark conclusion.
