Just City by Olga Tymofiyeva

Gripping, moving, and thought-provoking… A page-turner.

Determined to find his own path in life, a 21-year-old young man seeks a new life credo in Tymofiyeva’s outstanding debut novel. Young and highly driven Nathan is looking to put together $10,000 to create his first start-up with his friend Jack. An opportunity arises when Nathan is invited to play a virtual reality game as part of a scientific experiment in exchange for money. The first round in the game goes well, and Nathan is hopeful. Then, out of nowhere, everything changes, and the innocence of Nathan’s life is shattered, forcing him to reconsider his own decisions. The story seems straightforward initially, but relentless twists unravel a hidden complexity, keeping readers invested. The characters are fully fleshed out, including the secondary ones. Tymofiyeva’s prose is crisp as it places readers alongside Nathan, thriving as a young man surrounded by love, legacy, and promise before his life turns upside down and he begins to question everything he has known. Thoughtful and absorbing, the novel makes for a winner.
