An intricate, entertaining tale, both immediate and arrestingly absorbing.
Elspeth MacLeod’s quest to save her clan from sinister enemies while fighting false charges of witchcraft propels the action in Marsolais and Twigg’s second installment in The Torrport Diaries series. It is 1705. Elspeth is called home to face charges of witchcraft, but finds her clan in turmoil, owing to external forces trying to seize the clan’s fabled treasure. She teams up with Malcolm Forrester, her friend and physician, to thwart the enemy’s plan. The storyline is intense and so are the authors’ explorations into Elspeth’s and Malcolm’s inner turmoil whose individual stories make a complex tapestry, woven of intricate threads of incredible conflicts. From the opening page, readers will find themselves entangled in Elspeth’s story as she tries to defend herself against the false charges while dealing with the demons of her troubled past. The action kicks off right from the beginning, while the healthy doses of tension, historical intrigue, individual angst, and emotional epiphany keep the pages flying. Skillfully constructed and full of intrigue, the novel makes for a definite page-turner.
