Enough to Make the Angels Weep by Ernesto Patino

An involving mystery that keeps the pages turning…

Patino’s latest novel is filled with nonstop action and moral ambiguities, featuring the endearing P.I. Joe Coopersmith. When Carolyn Delaney hired Joe Coopersmith to investigate four-year-old unsolved murder case of her grandmother, Dorothy Delany, Joe didn’t think much about the case. But as he begins to dig deeper, he uncovers a bizarre plot involving killing of the descendants of Irish soldiers who fought for Mexico during the Mexican-American War, and the killer is too shrewd to get caught. History buffs will enjoy Patino’s examination of the Mexican-Irish collaboration during the US-Mexican war of 1847. Adding sinister individual plots and political conspiracies of the past to the current murder investigation might make the plot seem too complex, but Patino nicely ties up all the loose ends. Joe repeatedly hitting dead ends as he looks into the cold case provides plenty of action.  Thoroughly developed characters, expertly managed murder investigation, and a satisfying ending make it a crowd pleaser.
