The first poem “Next Door Terrorist” in the collection sets the general tone for the collection with its central theme of discrimination based on skin color. “1 Couch 1 Bath” talks about the despair of an unemployed protagonist In “Choice” it’s heartening to see the teen protagonist making a right choice in the end. Carmona’s words are mostly drawn from his personal experience and ring true in today’s context. His take on substance abuse, violence, and discrimination based on creed and color is brutally honest and sentimental without any trace of melodrama.
