A slow-paced adventure…
Set in a cozy Southern town, Hackney explores family, friendship, and goodness of the heart in her somewhat slow-paced debut. Glimmer Creek is said to be a town where one lucky person gets to experience a miracle every year. Rosie, a seventh grader and a wannabe filmmaker, sets on to find the truth about the miracles that happened to the lucky folks in the town. But her path is paved with difficulties, and there’s a risk she could lose her best friend. Hackney’s characters are grounded in reality, and the touch of magical realism provides intrigue to the story. While Rosie’s determination and strong will provide some uplifting moments in the story, the narrative drags with tedious moments, and Hackney fails to maintain the feeling of urgency all through the story.
