Slacksville’s Worst Superheroes (Tales from Slacksville) by K. Peach

Entertaining, fantastical, eccentric fun.

The extraordinary inhabitants of Slacksville return for yet another uproarious escapade in Peach’s newest addition to the series. Officer John Cop of Slacksville is determined to catch the infamous criminal Peep and his gang. His appeals for help on a TV interview are met with a frenzy of amateur superheroes, from overconfident “Samsonman” to the not-so-skilled “Cowman” and trusty “The Mom.” But when frustration builds, Officer Cop sees an opportunity to unite these misfits and give a young hero a chance to shine. Will they finally catch Peep and restore peace in Slacksville? The story is full of quirky characters, from #samsonmansavedmylife-obsessed Samsonman to the clueless Sppedperson and poetic Dakota Ring. And let’s not forget The Mom, with her trusty countdown timer and chaotic tendencies. Samatha may seem like just another reporter in the story, but don’t be fooled – she surprises with her support for Speedperson and unexpected advice. Abe and Toby add warmth to the mix. As the story unfolds, readers will find themselves cheering for Abe as he navigates through all the craziness that goes around him. And in the end, he gets the chance to become the ultimate superhero. The line art illustrations perfectly complement the story. Peach’s writing is full of surprise: beneath all the lightheartedness, there is often a deeper message or insight worth considering. The story seamlessly incorporates themes of self-discovery, self-assurance, resilience, perseverance, compassion, empathy, and community involvement. It also highlights the fact that one does not have to be extraordinary to make a positive impact on others and bring joy to their lives. A winner.
