Behind All The Tears: A Poetry Collection

A provocative blend of philosophy and poetic expression…

Mohamed’s anthology of short poems delves into a kaleidoscope of emotions – from the rawness of grief to the ache of heartbreak. With the very essence of life as its central theme, the book intricately weaves through life’s different stages and the pursuit of self-discovery. The poem, “An Old Friend,” is a contemplation of the author’s lifelong journey with the art of writing, a loyal companion through all her triumphs and struggles: “So close your eyes/ Open your heart/ Listen to the sound of nothing/ And breathe in the spirit/ Close your eyes and realize/ that the words that the pen writes/ are only scribbles that jump, loop, or twist/ in cursive or print.”  The thought-provoking piece “YOU ARE WHOLE,” delves deep into the complexity of life, encompassing both its beauty and its struggles. In “THE RETURN,” Mohamed explores the protagonist’s transformation from a muted existence to one of outspokenness and liberation. “THE BRIDGE” delves deep into the complexities of the human experience, drawing parallels with the struggles faced by immigrants. It vividly showcases how unwavering resilience and unyielding determination pave the path to triumph in life. The poem ends on a high note: “This is how it’s supposed to be/ It wasn’t the destination that made you happy/ It was always the bridge/ The bridge/ That set you free.” In today’s world, it seems that social media has reduced us to mere specks in the eyes of others. “NOBODY CARES” examines this grim reality, shedding light on the futility and insignificance of our online presence. Within Mohamed’s words lies a solace that defies definition, inviting readers to seek refuge in the intangible elements of the human experience. Her enigmatic poems exude an emotional poignancy. Through her piece, “AL SALAMU ALEIKOM,” she delves into the misconceptions that surround so many aspects of Islam, and in the process she beautifully sheds light on the truth behind common misunderstandings. This collection is full of memorable insights as Mohamed experiments with a myriad of topics, from love and loss, to the complexities of the human experience and the solace found in religion. Mohamed’s words are simple but cut deep, evoking emotions and provoking contemplation on the very essence of life and our place within it as she writes: “Stop looking and start seeing/ Stop seeing and start hearing/ Stop hearing and start listening/ Stop listening and start touching.”  The accompanying illustrations are modest yet evocative. A lovely collection that boldly explores all that makes for human experience.
