Visceral, tense, and complicated; a thoroughly satisfying supernatural thriller…
An archaic magic force threatens to unravel the very fabric of existence in DiPaolo’s latest adventure in The Dragon Storm series. “ABRACADABRA!” These mystical words send Alexander Storm and team on their next thrilling mission, taking them from the ruins of Solomon to the dark caves of Qumran, over the rugged Mediterranean mountains and all the way to India. Along the way, they face off relentless evil forces, and the deeper they go into it, the more they realize that this ancient power might be too powerful for them to control. The book is a well-mixed blend of supernatural action, archaeology, and myth. DiPaolo skillfully combines previous storylines and character connections, allowing new readers to become immersed in the story quickly. The third-person omniscient narrative voice that switches between multiple characters’ stories throughout the novel, including those of Storm, Asar, Keith, Kate, and others, to intriguing effect, is appropriately ominous and unsettling, as it sows a great sense of dread regarding the fate of the protagonists. Readers will like the characters, especially the relentless Storm and Asar, the latter’s smart and yet oblivious teammate. Storm’s connection with Serket, Kate, Frank and others is realistic which will pull readers in. The accompanying illustrations compliment the story while propelling the narrative forward, and the cliffhanger ending will leave readers eager for the second half of the novel. This absorbing tale of relentless suspense will grip avid archaeological thriller fans.
