The deeply engrossing second installment in Nixon’s Northern Necromancers: The Dragons ratchets up the tension and grit of the series to a fever pitch as Aurora struggles to break her mating bond with Carl. Aurora Nordstrøm, the infamous necromancer Ice Queen, had the perfect life until the Norns placed the troubled Carl Drahmann into her life. Unwilling to let her heart go to anyone, Aurora tries to keep her distance from the Danish dragon shifter. But Carl has no intention to let Aurora go. And the dragon that has been dormant for so long inside him is awake now. Nixon effortlessly compiles magic, sensuality, romance, gritty action, deadly secrets, and tenderness into the intriguing narrative, bringing to life her delightfully chaotic, entertaining cast of characters and their interpersonal relationships. She is an expert when it comes to weaving her character’ backstories into the action as Aurora struggles to derail the Norse Fates’ plans. Well-drawn intrigue, tense revelations, the deliciously ever-evolving romantic relationship between Aurora and Carl, and a lot of heart combined with the gritty, intriguing world of necromancy keep the pages flying. The almost nonstop twists and the characters’ emotional turmoil are satisfyingly bolstered by themes of love, loss, and death. The result is a thrilling, addictive book that will wow readers with its vibrant energy, endearing cast, and atmospheric setting. Satisfying cliffhanger ending is sure to have readers clamoring for the next installment. Told with wit and whimsy, this dark paranormal fantasy is a winner.
