When Neve Jennifer Connolly started seeing Saul Stevenson secretly, she thought she was just having a temporary fling. After Saul turns up bashed to death with a hammer, Neve proceeds to destroy every sign of her presence at the crime scene and from Saul’s life. But the more Neve tries to erase proof of her existence as Saul’s lover, the deeper she digs herself into a web of lies. Despite the predictability of the plot, the suspense never falters. The pacing is fast and the dialogue sharp. With supple prose, French delves into Neve’s thoughts as the latter constantly lives in fear of discovery of her affair. Although the final twist is quite predictable, domestic thriller fans will enjoy watching Neve trying to get out of the mess she created in the first place.

The Lying Room

by Nicci French

William Morrow

Pub Date 01 Oct 2019

ISBN 9780062676726

PRICE $15.99 (USD)

Predictable but suspenseful… In the pseudonymous French’s (the husband-wife writing team of Nicci Gerrard and Sean French) latest standalone, a married woman finds her lover killed and pushes herself into a tangled web of lies.
