Blair plays on themes of self-discovery, bullying, trauma, family ties, and friendship while taking readers on an exhilarating journey laced with supernatural intrigue in his highly engrossing debut. When a sudden accident left Effie feeling different, she had no idea how much it had affected her.  But a family vacation makes Effie realizes she is not the same person anymore: she is hearing whispers and have strange visions, and there is a mysterious girl who follows her everywhere she goes. Effie enlists the help of her brother Jimmy and her Crystal Beach friends Lydia and Sniff to get to the root of the mystery. Blair deftly blends elements of thriller and suspense with paranormal fiction, offering an inventive landscape, tightly constructed and satisfying plotlines, and the excitement of a chase to supply drama. There is plenty of supernatural intrigue, but the action never gets bloody. Great storytelling, endearing protagonists, and a finely executed plot make this a winner for middle graders. An utterly engrossing entry that will leave readers impatiently awaiting the author\u2019s next novel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
