The Coal Miner’s War by Randall Reese

A page-turner…

Reese weaves a compelling fictionalized retelling of history, taking readers into a turbulent time in Colorado’s unsavory past. Struggling to come to terms with the tragic death of his wife and child, Louis Tikas is determined to stay out of the inevitable battle with the Colorado coal field corporation thugs. But when the headstrong Mary Dunn arrives with her 10-year-old son in town and gets caught in the crossfire, Louise has no option but to take some kind of action. The stakes rise after the coal miners decide to go on a strike. Reese’s prose is crisp, the narrative engrossing, and the setting of the town of Ludlow has abundant appeal. He draws his characters with depth and credibility, and readers will find themselves completely immersed in Louis and Mary’s story. Reese’s writing is rich in detail as he examines the racial and class disparities, prevalent corruption, and arbitrary division between genders, successfully bringing a complex and tumultuous time in history to life. Filled with tension, suspense, and anticipation, this superb historical thriller is a must-read.
