An uproariously witty, tense, and cunningly constructed tale…
Keam’ latest, featuring beekeeper and amateur sleuth Josiah Reynolds is a riotous adventure, with all the delicious trappings of a finely constructed mystery—treachery, deception, greed, sinister conspiracies, and murder. Josiah is volunteering at an archeological dig at Fort Boonesborough with her attorney Shaneika and Shaneika’s cousin Heather, but finds herself becoming embroiled in a murder investigation after a suspicious drowning turns out to be a murder. The characters are etched with precision, but the spotlight shines brightest on the spunky pair of Josiah and Shaneika, who remain as interesting as ever. The tension stays ripe throughout, with the plot taking increasingly sharp turns, and Keam’s intelligent writing studded with Josiah’s sly wit keeps the pages flying. The vivid descriptions of Kentucky’s grim history will transport the reader to another time and place while sharp characterizations, deft dialogue, and intriguing storyline make it a page-turner. An escapist’s adventure and a quality mystery at once, this is a knockout.
