Almost all of the individual conflicts erupt into violence, leaving the participants with emotional scars. The huge time jump between past and present (300 years) is balanced with skill, and the action-packed culmination is hugely satisfying. Well executed, sharply told, and highly atmospheric, this promising start to a new epic science fiction series is sure to win Bruno plenty of fans.
