A clever and thrilling supernatural tale…

Lehrmann makes his debut in urban fantasy with this action-packed, fantastical first installment in The Chronicles of Sawyer Shepherd series featuring a teenager hero. After losing his parents to a church shooting, 18-year-old Sawyer Shepherd sets on a traveling escapade, trying to find inner peace. A rest stop in a small mining town of Sage City, Colorado, becomes a permanent place for the teen after he gets entangled in a scuffle at a local bar. When greed of a New York developer Lucien Furr puts the town in the path of an ancient evil, Shepherd joins forces with the locals Eli Romer and Mandy Jane, and together the trio sets on to face the faceless evil. Lehrmann’s characterization is subtle with chilling villains and daring heroes. While Shepherd’s integrity and determination make him a refreshingly empathetic protagonist, his grief and sense of restlessness adds depth to his personality. Eli shines all the way while Mandy’s character is equally remarkable. The antagonists are twisted and dangerous. The story is both clever and gritty, the plotting tight, and the revelations plenty. Lehrmann successfully ties up all the loose ends to bring the series opener to a satisfying close. This graceful web of action, intrigue, and non-stop twists combined with the swiftly moving narrative make for a page-turning reading adventure. Lehrmann’s impeccable worldbuilding and impressive cast are sure to captivate fans of urban fantasy and supernatural thrillers alike. Readers will wait eagerly for the trio’s next adventure.
