A well-done mystery…
When the long-buried bones of a man surface in the middle of chilling winter in a small Pennsylvania town, it becomes imperative for the homicide detective Parker Reed to solve the crime at the earliest possible. But more he digs deeper into the lives of the dead man’s step-daughter Trisha and her friends’ lives, more he becomes convinced that things are not as they seem on the surface. Protagonists’ constant flashbacks of far-past and recent-past in addition to the narrative shifts between the present weigh down the storytelling, especially in the first half, but Katchur’s engrossing narration is solid and keeps the reader interested until the shocking finale. Katchur combines a convincing plot idea with first-rated prose and thoroughly sketched characterization and creates an atmosphere of relentless suspense. The mystery lovers will be rewarded.
